  • DO THEY HAVE CERTIFICATES OF COMPETENCE FROM SAPMA/SAPITI OR A RECOGNISED TRAINING PROVIDER?

DO AND DON’TS
  • NO PAINTERS HAVE BEEN TRAINED IN SOUTH AFRICA SINCE THE 1990’S (NO APPRENTICESHIPS)
  • WHEN FACED WITH A PROBLEM SUBSTRATE, I.E. MOISTURE, THE PROBLEM MUST BE REPAIRED BEFORE PAINTING.( FIX THE LEAK FIRST)
  • USE QUALITY PAINT AND NOT THE CHEAPEST. ASK YOUR RETAILER FOR RECOMMENDATIONS.
  • THE HIGHER THE SPECIFICATION OF THE PAINT, THE MORE EXPENSIVE IT IS AND THE LONGER IT WILL LAST.
  • DECIDE ON WHETHER YOU WANT TO PAINT YOUR HOUSE EVERY YEAR OR EVERY 5/6 YEARS.
  • BEFORE YOU BUY PAINT BASED ON THE GUARANTEE CHECK THE CONDITIONS OF THE GUARANTEE. GUARANTEES WILL NOT BE HONOURED UNLESS THE CONDITIONS ARE MET. USE A QUALIFIED OR CERTIFIED PAINT APPLICATOR ONLY.
  • DO NOT HIRE A PAINTER OFF THE STREET BECAUSE HE IS CARRYING A BRUSH AND ROLLER. CHECK CREDENTIALS AND REFERENCES
  • DO NOT ALLOW STRANGERS ON YOUR PROPERTY UNLESS THEY HAVE REFERENCES AND CREDENTIALS
  • GET ADVICE FROM THE MANUFACTURER OR YOUR PAINT RETAILER BEFORE YOU BUY YOUR PAINT AND MATERIALS
  • DO NOT USE YOUR GARDENER TO PAINT AND THEN BLAME THE PAINT MANUFACTURER WHEN THE JOB FAILS.
  • 86% OF ALL PAINT FAILURES ARE DUE TO LACK OF ADEQUATE PREPARATION OF THE SUBSTRATE TO BE PAINTED. REMEMBER 4/5 PREPARATION 1/5 PAINTING.
  • “GIVING SOMETHING A COAT OF PAINT” DOES NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM, IT AGGRAVATES THE PROBLEM.
